Sophomores Challenge Headmaster in Winter Golf Match

Looking to beat the winter doldrums and win free dress for their entire class, sophomores Erik O. and Greg B. challenged Headmaster Bo Dixon to a round of golf on a makeshift course before spring break. After beating Mr. Dixon on a snowy campus parking lot last year, the boys were full of confidence going into the match.

Since there was no snow on the ground, students placed patches of “guk” on the course to make the competition more exciting. But it was Mr. Dixon’s partner, Mrs. Dixon, who turned out to be the boys’ biggest obstacle, not the “guk!”

“Mrs. Dixon was incredible. She sunk a 50-foot put to tie the first hole,” said Greg B. It was close for a few holes and then the Dixon’s caught fire! “By the end of the match they thoroughly owned us,” admitted Greg B.

In the end, the foursome decided that the last hole would be all-or-nothing. If the boys won the hole, the sophomore class would still get free dress. If they lost the hole, their classmates would have to wear special dress. Once again, Mrs. Dixon dominated. “She was the only one to make it through the “guk” and into the hole,” reported Erik O.

“Mrs. Dixon and I trained for months for this Olympian contest. Clearly, it paid off! Our opponents were great sports in defeat, and I look forward to next year’s tournament,” said Mr. Dixon.

The boys intend to make this an annual event until they graduate. And they have promised their classmates, “Next year is our year, guaranteed!”
