Text of the Headmaster's Snow Message

Bo in the snow, close up.Parents,

I guess the one statement I have heard most often is, "I have not seen anything like this before!" There are 12-foot piles of snow surrounding our roads and parking lots. Avalanches of snow occasionally cascade down from our rooftops. Right now that is probably the most unsafe aspect of our campus.

Our campus roads are clear, but if we invited you all to drive to school, it would resemble demolition derby. We are working around-the-clock to clear building entrances, drains, fire hydrants, and paths. I was hoping that we could open tomorrow, Friday, but we simply are not ready.

All I can say is that we need to remember that this is a snowstorm, nothing worse. Hang in there. Be glad your family is safe, and soon this will be a distant memory. I look forward, believe me, to seeing everyone on Monday.

Announcements:

1. Lower School Family Night February 21 is postponed.
2. For L.S. parents, February 27 will be a teaching day, not a conference day. Noreen Lidston and the faculty are working on alternate means of communication.
3. After Middle School parent-teacher conferences were cancelled on February 19, faculty members began contacting the parents who had signed up to meet with them.
4. The Upper School exam period has been cancelled in favor of teaching time.

Bus Transportation:

On Friday and Saturday, bus drivers will be checking the passability and safety of their routes. IF THERE ARE ANY ROUTE OR PICK-UP POINT CHANGES, your bus driver will call you.

Editorial Comment:

One of the ways we can be sure to cover the important material is to increase the pace of work. In the next three weeks, I am sure that we will be asking a bit more from your children. This is a particularly important time to keep a close eye on issues of planning ahead, disciplined time management, and proper hours.

Watch the Web site for any further academic or extracurricular calendar changes.

Take care!
