Create a Ceramic Bowl for Empty Bowls
5th and 6th periods
Donate $2 or more for Casual Dress Day

Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple. Participants create a ceramic bowl that can be used to serve a simple meal of soup and bread. Anyone can participate. There will be instructors manning each of six tables with directions on how to create a bowl. Students can choose to keep their bowls as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world or they can give them away as gifts. The bowls will be glazed and fired and will be available for pick up about two weeks later.

As an incentive, the Art Department will be offering a casual dress day to participating students. Students can pay $2 and make a bowl, or make a $2 donation. All money collected will go to Empty Bowls, which will choose a hunger-fighting organization to receive the funds. Report members of the art department, "This is a tremendously successful project with literally thousands of participants raising millions of dollars to fight hunger around the world. We hope you will take the opportunity to participate as we try to make a difference."

Dress Like Mia Halton Day
Get into the swing of it! Art teacher Mia Halton has a style like no one else, but that doesn't mean it can't be emulated! Pay $2 and wear patterned socks, denim overalls, and red clogs, and match her style by not matching! All proceeds to benefit the Empty Bowls project.
