Great Crowd and Game, Despite Score
The 94th Annual McDonogh-Gilman football game had all the makings of a great contest. Both teams came into the game with strong records. The weather was perfect. And the estimated 6,000+ crowd was spirited on both sides of the John McDonogh Stadium.
McDonogh collected the first 7 points early, then Gilman won the next 28. The Eagles went on to tie the Greyhounds in the third quarter. But Gilman reclaimed the lead for good in the fourth quarter, and McDonogh couldn't catch up. The final score was 34-28.
While it was a disappointing result for the Eagles and their fans, the game itself was a classic in this storied rivalry, as sports reporter Keith Mills writes.
