Boys First, Girls Third in Track Championships

A day before the preliminary races, boys track coach Jeff Sanborn remarked that if all the planets aligned, McDonogh boys had the talent to win their first MIAA track championship. Their challenge, he said, would be to overcome competing teams' depth and place high in individual events.

That's just what they did. On Saturday, May 17 at Calvert Hall, the boys' 10 top-three finishes put them first, by 3 1/2 points over Mount St. Joseph High School. Read all about it in The Sun.

The girls, meanwhile, claimed third place in the IAAM championships, with important victories in the discus, 100 relay, and pole vault. Like the boys, McDonogh's small but talented girls team finished ahead of much larger squads. Check out this account in The Sun.
