Saving the Bay has Meaning for Eighth-Graders

Photo Essay

CBF educators involved students in setting out and collecting crab pots, scraping the bay floor, and beachcombing for artifacts. Eighth-graders collected and identified all sorts of bay critters, including tiny shrimp, sponges, male and female crabs, and even sea horses. They went marsh-mucking too, seeking out mud pits and more critters.

By the end of the adventure, students understood why they had come: to know what encompasses the Chesapeake Bay watershed; to see the interconnectedness of bay life; to understand the environmental impact of runoff; and to be aware of what they can do to save the bay.
