Seventh-Graders Study Stream
Seventh-graders made a campus stream their classroom today. They passed through cornfields and followed the cross-country trail until they reached the Gwynns Falls on the east side of campus. Working in teams, students measured depths and widths, sifted through sediment and rocks, and unearthed creatures and critters. Students also took velocity measurements. Once back in the classroom, teams will use this data to calculate water discharge for their cross-section of the stream. They will also relate their findings to a sediment size analysis.
