Silent Art Auction to Benefit UNICEF

Upper schoolers will sponsor a silent art auction to benefit UNICEF on Wednesday, April 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre lobby.

Students, faculty, parents, and friends have contributed original paintings, prints, photographs, jewelry, knitwear, and accessories. On the day of the auction, bid sheets will be placed beneath the artwork. Each item will go to the highest bidder at the conclusion of the auction. Proceeds will be donated to UNICEF for educational programs.

McDonogh has recently fortified its bond with the international UNICEF foundation by donating money from student fundraising drives. Says student organizer Tara K. '08, "Although the money that McDonogh sends will never be enough to help all of the children who are without an education around the world, every bit helps. Money raised through this silent art auction will help children not as lucky as McDonogh students to gain access to a good education."

This is the second annual charity art auction sponsored by upper schoolers. In 2007, senior Danny Greenberg organized the first such event. A talented photographer and artist, Greenberg was moved to action after a visit to post-Katrina New Orleans. Proceeds from last year's auction went to McDonogh 26 Elementary, McDonogh's sister school in Gretna, Louisiana.
