Twenty-eight top scholars from the classes of 2008 and 2009 were inducted into McDonogh's chapter of the Cum Laude Society on Thursday, April 17.
In a formal ceremony in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre, the initiates received certificates of membership from Head of Upper School Ceil Millar, chapter president, and distinctive yellow ribbons from Headmaster Charlie Britton. Millar noted that fact that membership in the Cum Laude Society is bestowed on students who demonstrate high academic achievement, honor, and good character.
Keynote speaker Lloyd Thacker, executive director of the Education Conservancy, congratulated the honorees and offered practical advice on the college admission process.

The Cum Laude Society is modeled after the Phi Beta Kappa collegiate honor society. McDonogh has had a Cum Laude chapter since 1955.
